Hand print Tree
A few years ago, I made this canvas with my students.  This was in the spring when we were talking about Earth Day, spring weather, and ways to keep our earth happy.  We were very into the book, The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss and decided to make a painting inspired by the story.  The children made their hand prints in different shades of green and I wrote the words to the powerful, popular line from the book: "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not."  This art project tied in with our classroom conversations, our theme, and a genuine interest in our planet and what we can do to make things better.  And yes, 5 year olds get it.  :)
